THE VESSEL

You want to escape this place, this world of anguish and darkness. This world where inhumane rhetoric is spouted by the most powerful members of the government? You ask yourself where would you go? Would you go in space or time? Forward or backward? If there was a vessel, a ship, or vehicle that could take you anywhere, where would you go? Could that vessel take you to a different timeline altogether? And what would be the cost of something so powerful? Who would be lost and who would be saved? Is there even a place or time in this world where things were good for everyone? What would that even look like? And who would be allowed on the vessel/ship/vehicle? How would you gain access? Would you build it? Would you stow away? Would you buy a ticket? Could you afford it?

If you didn’t build it, who did and why? Are they looking for a refuge or are they looking for a time and place to exploit?

So, if you could go anywhere would you go? And what would going cost? Who would gain and who would lose from your going?

In your time and place, you matter. You are making the world better with your love and compassion. There are millions of places that may be “better” but you know deep down in your gut that there is no place better for you to be than in the place you are. Because there is no running from the truth of this timeline. This future or past. It will go with you wherever you go, and it will eat at you for your desertion. In all times and all places there have been black moments. There have been spans of darkness deeper and darker than you have ever thought you could live through. There have been horrors. But there has also been light. And you are a part of that light. The darkness takes the brightest lights and tries to snuff them out. Cutting power, stealing flames, drowning with despair, but that darkness is afraid. It is afraid of your light joining with another light and another light and another light until there is so much light the darkness has nowhere to hide.

But if you want the vessel still, take it. Find a set of wheels or wings to take you to a place where lights are shining together. Or maybe you are someone who wants to travel into the darkest part of the black. Maybe you are a candle that is really a beacon, and you are a gathering point for other small flickering lights. Whatever choice you make, the important part is to keep your light shining, not let it go out. Because a lit match is tiny, but it can light a bonfire. It can keep other lights from flickering out or it can relight those that have been doused. So, take those vessels if you can or if you must. And light a path through the darkness. We will follow you; we will join you, we will gather against the dark.

Here's the keys, lead the way.
